What Is Yoga?

The Sanskrit word yoga means 'to yoke, or to unite'. Every individual will have their own experiences through their yoga journey, exploring and discovering their practice at their own pace. Through the practice of yoga an environment is created that allows the individual to discover a place of balance, freedom and harmony leading them in the direction of uniting the body, mind and the spirit/self.

There are many approaches to yoga. The practice has become very common in the Western world, helping promote health and well being through physical postures (asanas), breathing exercises (pranayama) and meditation (dhyana). Physically the body becomes stronger and supple creating ease in movement. Mentally concentration increases, a patience is gained and thought becomes clearer.

The practice of Yoga leads to an awareness of oneself. This awareness gained through the practice can be taken off the matt and into everyday life; becoming more present and peacefully in this ever changing world we live in.
